INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING

This Module helps students familiarize themselves in the world of drawing to scale. You are challenged throughout the module to adapt different drawing techniques in order for you to represent something accurately and for someone to be able to understand and maybe even build or make it. You don’t only learn how to draw but also how to read drawing symbols and how to use them. I personally learnt how to implement scale whenever I am drawing something from this model. I also learned how to use simple things like line weight to emphasize certain features In a drawing.

ASSIGNMENT 1

Introduction to Technical drawing

For this assignment we were required to draw an object smaller than A4 paper  to a sensible scale of our choice. I choose to draw a DSLR camera. I was required to draw this object in top view and elevation views providing accurate measurements of the object on all the drawings as well. Throughout the works with advice i heard from listening to the tutorials i polished up my lines and ensured to make sure i tried to keep my paper clean, avoiding unnecessary marks. Upon completion of this assignment i learnt how to create a title block and how to present an object in different views while ensuring my measurements are consistent.

ASSIGNMENT 2

Sampled Measured Drawings

Like the first assignment this one also focused on producing drawings to a sensible scale of our choice the only difference is this time the object to be produced was a drawing of a physical room we were required to draw different elevations and plan view, this time we were also introduced on how to draw a sectional view of a building. Because i was not able to travel to campus because of the pandemic i had to draw a space accessible to me, which was the scullery at my home. During this assignment i learnt how to use different symbols that represent things such as windows, walls and doors. I enjoyed this assignment because i got to learn of the size of this room and how to represent the objects in this room for a someone to visualize it.

ASSIGNMENT 3

Orthographic Drawing of Mini Chalet

For the final assignment we were asked to design a chalet for two which would be built on the lake of Taylor's university campus. We were required to pick real furniture from an IKEA catalogue and furnish the chalet and draw all this to scale which i enjoyed. For this assignment we had to be considerate with the space of the chalet and ensure we fit the required number of rooms with the minimum furniture required. We had to incorporate previous symbols we learnt and some new ones  I learnt how to present a roof on a drawing

REFLECTION ON MODULE

I enjoyed this module because it helped me improve my drawing skill in terms of paying attention to detail and trying to ensure measurements are accurate.  I enjoyed the final assignment in particular because, it made me feel like I was preparing something that will come to life when I complete it and it made me realize that I am close to living my dream. The major challenge I faced during this module was finding some of the required paper and the stationary used as most shops in my area do not stock such items, but regardless I tried my best to make do with what was available. I picked up TGC 4 in terms of learning to express an object or space in terms of a drawing for someone to understand.
